As a funeral celebrant I meet a wide range of people who are all coming to me at one of the most difficult and vulnerable times in their life. I will never take their trust in me for granted, and will never underestimate the strength and support that we all need during any bereavement.

For much of my adult life I worked in academia, working for universities across the UK and with a wide range of staff, students and stakeholders. I cherished my time in the lecturer theatre and seminar room, and working with students was always the highlight of my day. As my experience grew I developed the pastoral care side of my role, supporting students through some of the most difficult times of their lives - homelessness, mental health crises, and of course bereavement. In addition to my work with students I was also a Union Representative, transferring my skills to support and guide staff as they went through challengind and often very stressful experiences.

I loved my roles at university, but as the years went by I started to feel increasingly that the parts of the role that brought me the most satisfaction, and those at which I excelled, might be better explored away from academia . That is when I decided that I wanted to explore celebrancy, and specifically funeral celebrancy, and completed my training with the Academy of Modern Celebrancy, to become an independent funeral celebrant. As a celebrant I work with just one or a few people to create each service, and to then present that service in the style that is most fitting. As with many of my previous roles, my place is to support you at an incredibly difficult time, and to guide you through the process of creating and holding a funeral, celebration, or whatever event you choose, to honour and remember your loved one.
